Get To Know Me!
Scout's honor, I didn't coax, coerce or solicit any of the testimonials below. They were offered freely by some of the industrious editors and writers I've had the pleasure of working with over the years. As far as I'm concerned, their praise says a lot more than anything I could come up with. Fortunately, no one has ever hired me to write about myself; I’m lousy at it. I feel pretty comfortable saying that I'm a skilled writer, diligent editor and creative photographer, but that's about as much bluster as you'll get out of me.

I've been writing since I was in high school, where I worked on the school paper and even published my own music fanzine. I not only did the bulk of the writing in that first endeavor, I did all the photography, layout, proofreading and, well, pretty much everything. Every other job since then has seemed easy in comparison. I continued to produce other music fanzines while I was earning my bachelor's degree from the University of Oregon. Then it was time to get a real job.

I moved to Seattle in 1990 and started my writing and editing career in earnest working for a prominent Northwest music magazine called The Rocket in the mid-Nineties. That eventually led to a brief exodus from the music industry when I took an editorial position at Canoe & Kayak Magazine, a premier nationally distributed outdoor magazine. Throughout the Nineties I freelanced for a number of national magazines and web sites--from Transworld Snowboarding to RayGun to Amazon.com. Early in 2000, I took a job in the marketing department of a Seattle-based outdoor gear manufacturer/retailer, REI, and expanded my skills even further as a catalog copy writer.

I have been supporting myself solely as a freelancer since 2002. However, rather than limit myself to simply writing, I also do editing, copyediting and photography. Some current/recent clients include: Seal Press, Avalon Press, becker & mayer!, Rollingstone.com, Wenner Media, MOJO, Guitar World, Revolver, Decibel, Inside TV, Alternative Press, Chord, Cascade Designs, Paddlesports Business, CityFood (Vancouver), Epicure and Travel, Imbibe, Wine X and Where Seattle.

Thanks for taking the time to look at my writing, editing and photography samples. As you can see, I have a variety of interests and skills. Music, food, beer/wine/spirits, outdoor pursuits and travel are all areas of expertise. If you like what you see, please contact me at ademt at earthlink.net.
